Iron is an essential trace element for our body. It is contained in the hemoglobin proteins, an integral part of red blood cells, whose role is to ensure the transport of oxygen in the body. Iron deficiency results in less oxygenation of the cells, generating, for example, a feeling of fatigue. During menstruation (and especially during heavy menstruation), women suffer iron losses. This phenomenon is also present in people who have suffered a loss of blood, as for example in an accident or following an operation.

In addition, athletes also have high iron needs and repeated efforts requiring a good oxygenation. Because of growth, particular attention must be paid to iron intake in children and adolescents.
